Based on the popular Internet novel, “Multi-Cell Girl”, the film takes place in “No-Use High School”, a school renowned for its sexual aberrations. The student body is comprised of sexually ambiguous teenagers, and the student president and vice-present flaunt their taste for S&M. Independent study and supplementary classes are done on homosexuality and transgenderism, and teachers and students alike leave school early because of sexually-transmitted diseases. But amidst this environment, there are some that just can’t adapt. Among them: “Poor Girl”, a student who earns money for her family by sleeping with older men; “Anthony”, a luxurious pretty-boy from Switzerland; and “One-Eye”, the school’s sole virgin. Poor Girl falls in love with Anthony at first sight. Meanwhile, Anthony is struck by One-Eye’s brother “Two Eyes” and feels confused about his sexuality.

How do you follow up an acclaimed melodrama literally reviving the career of a great veteran (1998’s An Affair with Lee Mi Sook and Lee Jung Jae), and an exquisitely subtle tale of love, jealousy and abandon in the Joseon Dynasty (2003’s Untold Scandal with Jeon Do Yeon, Bae Yong Joon and Lee Mi Sook)? With a musical comedy about rich teenager boys falling in love with transgenders!

The career of director Lee Jae Yong is amongst the most unique in Chungmuro, and his new film Dasepo Naughty Girls is nothing different, a quirky comedy adapted from a sexually explicit (the film is a little tamer, but still very raunchy), hilarious and extremely popular online comic. Mosseulmo (lit. useless!) High has a peculiar curriculum, giving a new meaning to sexual education. Its students struggle week in and week out in between S&M lessons, mass venereal diseases and teachers dating minors. Amongst all those strange characters is a girl so poor she literally wears poverty on her sleeves (Kim Ok Bin of Over The Rainbow), a one-eyed outcast (Lee Kyeon of Yeon Gaesomun and Hello, Francesca) and her stunningly beautiful sister (who, go figure, takes a leak with the boys. I wonder why…), a chubby teacher who likes to dress like Sailor Moon while dating his students, and that’s only the tip of the iceberg. They study (very little), they date (a lot), and in between you also get your dose of dance skits. It’s like Sex is Zero meets Bollywood!

Makiko Uchida arrives in a southern Japanese port hoping to find a boat that will take her to the final resting place of the Battleship Yamato on the 60th anniversary of its sinking. She is rebuffed by all until she reveals to Katsumi Kamio that she is the daughter of Petty Officer Uchida. Kamio is surprised for he thought unlike himself, Uchida had been lost when the Yamato was besieged and sunk on April 7, 1945 by American aircraft which prevented its fulfilling a final suicide mission against the American fleet battling to capture Okinawa. Kamio and Uchida were part of a close set of comrades that proudly and bravely served on board this, the largest battleship ever constructed. He agrees to journey with Makiko with only the help of Atsushi, a 15 year old deckhand. As he pilots the way throughout the rough 15 hour journey Kamio reminiscences about life aboard the Yamato during the war and also about the sailor’s mothers and girlfriends left back home.

Sixteen years have passed, but the schooltime memories are still vivid for all involved because of the terrible things she did to her students. Some of them are left with psychological trauma and even physical impediments from her harsh treatment. Ms. Park, of course, remembers things a little differently. With the students determined for revenge, this school reunion is anything but typical, and the teacher-student relationship gains a new and very striking meaning.

Korean Cinema’s action kid is back for a final punch! Known for his passion for Jackie Chan and Shaw Brothers films, Ryu Seung Wan, director of 2005’s Crying Fist, has shown over the years that he’s much more than a director of action flicks. Before moving on to other things, however, the young director is giving one last heartfelt salute to his beloved genre with The City of Violence, Ryu’s first and probably last pure action film.

The City of Violence marks the first full-fledged starring role for Korea’s best action director Jung Doo Hong, whose action choreography can be seen in many films including Taegukgi, Silmido, and No Blood No Tears. It also marks a return to acting for director Ryu since his masterful debut Die Bad in 2000.

After spending most of his adult life in Seoul, detective Tae Soo (Jung Doo Hong) returns to his hometown in Chungcheong Province to attend an old friend’s funeral. He meets some familiar faces, including Seok Hwan (Ryu Seung Wan) and Pil Ho (Lee Bum Soo from Forbidden Quest), who is now a very ambitious gangster. When he learns the details of his friend’s murder, Tae Soo teams up with Seok Hwan to find the culprit and bring him pain - Ryu Seung Wan style.

Director Lee Yoon Ki follows up the critical success of his assured debut This Charming Girl with a tale of heartache and isolation for three Koreans living abroad. SSunday Seoul is an anthology of bizarre and humorous tales, strung together by the misadventures of two hapless heroes who seem blissfully unaware of their frequent brushes with the supernatural.

The first story, The Werewolf, follows high school student Do Yeon (Bong Tae Gyu), who suffers regular humiliation at the hands of school bullies. He is not a good student, nor a good fighter, and he’s even worse when it comes to the ladies. Do Yeon harbors a secret desire for the beautiful Ji Yeon (Ko Eun Ah), who sits in front of him in class - but has never had the courage to say anything. However, when he starts growing hair, claws and fangs, Do Yeon’s world begins to change - especially when his parents tell him he’s not the only one in the family ruled by the moon.

Proceedings take a dark and serious turn in The Visitor as a serial killer (Park Seong Bin) finds himself stranded on a pitch-black stormy night after his car breaks down. Seeking shelter, he ends up in a strange house, occupied by a family perhaps even more dangerous than him. But the light-heartedness returns for the final chapter, The Young Adventurer. Seeking revenge for the death of his father, a young man named Typhoon (Kim Su Hyeon) embarks on a journey to learn martial arts. This amusing episode deliberately plays on the formula of numerous kung fu movies from the 70s and 80s and features a number of knowing cameos.
